CA FAB Steering Committee Statement on Launch of Multi-State Reproductive Freedom Alliance

The California Future of Abortion Council (CA FAB Council) steering committee, comprised of ACCESS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE, Black Women for Wellness Action Project (BWWAP), California Coalition for Reproductive Freedom, Californian Latinas for Reproductive Justice, Essential Access Health, NARAL Pro-Choice California, National Health Law Program, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California, and TEACH (Training in Early Abortion for Comprehensive Healthcare) released the following statement on the launch of the multi-state Reproductive Freedom Alliance (Alliance):

“The California Future of Abortion Council steering committee applauds the 20 Governors for joining together as the Reproductive Freedom Alliance and thanks Governor Gavin Newsom for his leadership as part of this collective group, continuing his steadfast commitment to reproductive freedom. The fight to protect reproductive freedom requires bold action and collaboration, and the Alliance provides for just that, serving as an important channel to drive needed action forward.

“As we continue to understand the full scope of the devastating impact the Dobbs decision has had on providers, patients, and communities, the Alliance will be critical in sharing information and ideas. As the anti-abortion movement continues its efforts to ban and criminalize abortion nationwide, this broad effort will help to meet the needs of people seeking abortion care and to protect the individuals and those who support them.

“The CA FAB Council was formed with the same idea of collaboration, with the support of Governor Newsom and leadership of Senate Pro tem Toni Atkins. It has allowed those dedicated to protecting reproductive freedom and expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care to come together to identify challenges and bring recommendations forward to policymakers to address those issues. The blueprint created by the CA FAB Council has led to historic legislation and budget achievements in California and we hope the work of the CA FAB Council can help inform the Alliance and other states.”
